Elizabeth Torres lost eight family members in the attacks of 11 September 2001. A few years later, he became a convert to Islam.
“I never blame any religion for what happened to my family,” said Torres. “Islam does not tell us to destroy anything. People who do this manipulated, brainwashed,” she said again.
Elizabeth claims to have undergone long spiritual quest. He turned to Islam after marrying an Egyptian citizen. He changed his name to Safia El-Kasaby.
El-Kasaby claimed opposition from her family. His daughter, Sylvia, who married a soldier who died in battle with him refused to reconnect.
Another daughter, must face the oblique commentary from his friends. “They say, ‘Oh, your mother is a terrorist now.” And I said, ‘No, it’s totally different from religion, “said Natalia Torres.
Not easy for Elizabeth Torres to switch religion after the September 11 attacks. Events of September 11 were no doubt make many people look at Muslims with suspicion.
Even the most recent Gallup survey said at least 48 percent of American Muslims have experienced discrimination or at least the negative attention from people around. Because that’s discrimination, Torres had decided to wear a headscarf covering her hair off.
“The important thing is my relationship with God. When my heart is fine with him, no matter what other people say,” he said.
On the 10th anniversary of September 11, converts it back to regret his choice of religion is hijacked by a group of people in the name of Islam.
